Background on the film in case you missed it:

  • After college, Jay’s dream of playing pro soccer in Europe seemed unreachable. Sleeping in an attic, painting houses and eating beans and toast to survive, Jay took the most unlikely route to the top. After not making the professional leagues in the U.S., Jay left for Europe at the age of 21 without any professional experience – only a passport, $1800 and a backpack full of dreams. The film documents Jay’s journey from the bottom – playing in Sunday park leagues and lower level division London clubs earning 40 pounds a week — to playing in the English Premier League — to starting in the 2010 World Cup. Featuring US National Team players Stuart Holden, Tim Howard, and others and cameos from Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba and more, the film tells the story from Jay and the people who lived it.

AO Hartford’s own, Shawn, is an executive producer on a new documentary coming out in the Fall.  It’s the inspirational story of Jay DeMerit who is a member of the US Men’s National Soccer Team and who played in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Jay Demerit’s friends and Shawn are currently raising money to help finish with production (mostly licencing rights to FIFA).  Even a $1 pledge will help.  See the below link for our movie trailer and to learn more about the project.

The bus trip to Gillette was a huge success, the following is a message from Bus Captain, Micah…
Thank you for coming and I hope you all had a good time.  Remember this was a friendly and the result did not matter, we were just trying out the young players for the gold cup tournament STARTING TOMORROW JUNE 7 Vs. Canada (come watch the game at Damon’s with us)
about the bus trip
First, I would like all of the non members to concider joining AO officially.  The more official members we have the better we will be able to put on bus trips and negotiate better deals with bars and such.  I only have the e-mails of the ticket buyers, so please pass this on to your group.
Second, I want any feedback positive and more importantly negative about the bus trip.
This tailgate was quite a bit different from other tailgates, and everyone scattered immediately after we parked (small blader people) so I never even got a chance to get people set up with cold beer.  So I know we could have been better co-ordinated on that front.
Unite and Strengthen!
